In the story of  Michael Vey a group of teenagers (all born on the same day at the same hosipal in Pasadena) who discover that their is something special -- in fact very special about themselves. Most have been gathered up by evil genius Hatch and have been quickly forced into doing his bidding. All except Michael and Taylor. I'm not going to give too much more away, but this is where the going really gets started.
I think this will find it's way into the hands of those of you who enjoy the Percy Jackson books and also those who enjoy x-men. Kind of an underdog story in a battle of good vs. evil.

Plain Kate

Plain Kate by Erin Bow

The winner of the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award for 2011. Congratulations Erin Bow on such a wonderfully written, heartfelt tale. It's one of those books which will be hard to describe but when you put it into someones hands , you'll say "you have to read this."

I know that the true fans of this series devoured their own copy of Inheritance this weekend, but for those of you who are patiently waiting for our library copies I should have them ready to go sometime on Monday. In the meantime here is a teaser.

Trash by Andy Mulligan

I was resisting this book, I though this book is gonna break my heart, this book is gonna depress me. Instead I got quite a surprize, I got a book so packed with mystery and suspense I could barely put it down. I got a book that is still with me a week after. I got a book that shows the hopeful side of the human condition in the dirtiest, smelliest, aweful settings I've ever read about. Resiliency, a powerful attribute, an excellent theme for a book if it can be done thoughtfully - Andy Mulligan succeeded in designing an amazing book about it.

I took this book with me for over the break, liked it but didn't love it. Worth reading and maybe some of you will love it and prove me wrong.

Here's the summary:

Rick Riordan

One of my current favourite authors is Rick Riordan. His Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has to be one of the hottest tickets in our library. fun, action-packed, humorous and trilling all at once - who can resist a book that has all that , well not many of you. I'm not sure that one of his books remains on the shelf and we're talking multiple copies, my friends.

So just to pump you up for some more of his great writing here's a little write up for The Red Pyramid and the upcoming Lost Heroes (release date Oct. 12, 2010).
