Nothing says Welcome Back quite like a catchy song, that will have you singing along and thinking you can 'read it maybe.'
Let's have a great year! Let's read loads of books, let's listen to stories, let's write and tell stories, let's have some fun.
Read On.
About Me
- Ms. Fischbuch
- I'm the school librarian at G.S. Lakie Middle School. As you can see - me, reading and comfy chairs go way back. I still enjoy Asterix and many other graphic novels. My main reason for blogging is for reviewing books for the students and anyone else that might be interested in YA literature.

Fabulous project, worthy cause
SketchTravel from Curio on Vimeo.
This animated short film was created as part of a sketchtravel project which is an international charity art project where one red sketch book was passed around between 71 artists around the globe for 4 1/2 years.
The original sketch book was sold for $ 96,200 US and its entire proceeds will go towards building libraries in third world countries in partnership with a child literacy non-profit Room to Read.
Just wanted to share something that makes me feel good. If your interested in Room to Read please check them out here.

Random Acts of Kindness
So, I created a bulletin board for other people to enjoy -- when I entered our library Monday morning this is what I found.
Thank you Mrs. Hudson and your awesome group of Grade Seven's, you not only made my day but quite possibily my whole month. I hope your Random Acts of Kindness keep spreading.

Libraries ...
This past week I created a display for the Lethbridge School District head offices. I chose to make a giant size Wordle, I asked my friends at school to finish this sentence - Libraries are... - this provided tonnes of inspiration. I included numberous photos from libraries in the district and of course ours.Take a look.

Library mash-up
Hey, I just found this cool library mash-up made by Greene County Public Library. Libraries and librarians have been sneaking their way into movies, television and cartoons for years, here's a mash-up of some of the more well known clips featuring libraries, books and librarians.

The Joy of Books
I love this stop time animation. What I'd love even more is if the books in our library would come alive at night and sort themselves into this wonderful kind of rainbow each day. can you imagine it? I think I'd always have a smile on my face.

Grand Opening
Today's the day of our big Grand Opening of the Library Cafe & Lounge.
Congratulations! to all students from G.S. Lakie who worked so hard during the Fall Fundraiser ~ this project couldn't have gotten off the ground without you.
Also Bravo! to students who took part in the design challenge. Your inspiration, creativity and excitement led the way in designing the amazing space we are celebrating today.
Thank you to the G.S. Lakie staff who have been patient and supportive throughout the year as the place seemed to be in a constant state of transformation.
And last but not least, THANK YOU to Mr. James for helping to understand our vision and see it through to completion.

Library transformation
As many of you already know, the G.S. Lakie Library is going to undergo a renovation, which students are encouraged to share their ideas of what they'd like the new space to look and feel like. I've started my research into what I'd like to see in some of the space as well. My ideas are way out there, and include all sorts of things most of you have never seen or heard of. I'm gonna share some of them here - to help you spur on your creative sides. my thought is that if your gonna dream, dream big.
This is the transformation children's library.
And the adult version.
I'll keep tossing some of the great library reno ideas out there, so stay tuned.

Libraries of the future

This is one of the most expensive and cool things I've seen for libraries in the future (actually some libraries already have them - I haven't seen any in Canada but I know of some libraries in the States that have them.)
It's called a listening pod. Standing outside of it you hear nothing - sit inside it, you can rock right out!
Read On or Rock On doesn't matter at this library.

Yes, there is a comic strip about libraries
I've been a huge fan of the comic strip "Unshelved" for years now, so I thought I'd show a couple of their strips here on my blog. Enjoy.
P.S. some days when it looks like a bomb has gone off in the library, I have to remind myself that they're just REALLY enjoying the library.
